CEEFC supports Conifex through Large Enterprise Tariff Loan facility
(September 18, 2026) – Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corporation (CEEFC), a member of the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV) group of companies, announced it is issuing a Large Enterprise Tariff Loan (LETL) to support Conifex Timber Inc., a Canadian lumber and biomass power generating company based in Mackenzie, British Columbia.
Through the LETL facility, CEEFC will provide a $30-million loan to Conifex as Canada’s forest products sector continues to navigate higher tariffs and ongoing market uncertainty. The facility is designed to provide liquidity to otherwise viable Canadian businesses facing tariff-related pressures, subject to rigorous financial and commercial due diligence.
Conifex is a longstanding employer in Mackenzie, British Columbia, supporting 260 direct jobs in the community. The company operates one of the community’s remaining sawmills and is an important contributor to the local economy. Like other Canadian softwood lumber producers, Conifex has faced significant market and trade-related pressures. Its operations produce lumber and other wood products used in housing and construction, as well as biomass products used in energy production, serving customers in Canada and export markets.
“By assisting Conifex through this period, CEEFC is helping preserve important industrial capacity and jobs at a critical time for Canada’s forestry sector,” said Lorraine Audsley, President and Chief Executive Officer of CEEFC. “This financing provides the stability needed to maintain operations, sustain communities and strengthen Canada’s supply chains.”
“We appreciate the financial support provided by the Government of Canada during a period of significant disruption and challenging market conditions for Canada’s forestry sector. The LETL financing provides Conifex with important financial flexibility to maintain operations, navigate current market pressures and position the company for greater stability as conditions improve,” said Ken Shields, Conifex CEO and Chair.
